Bicycle Network: RACV Great Victorian Bike Ride
Day 2 - Nelson to Portland
|Left to right: A view of Portland, the Portland Cable Tram, Portland historic building, and Cape Nelson State Park nearby.
Day 2 sees us begin the 74km ride to Portland, familiar territory for those who have joined us on past rides along the Great Ocean Road.
Along today's route, you will past various pine plantations, as well as Mount Richmond and the Cobboboonee State Forest. You will tackle a small hill on approach to Mount Richmond, but it's then an easy downhill ride into Portland. It will be an enjoyable and quiet Sunday ride with your new RACV Great Vic mates.
Portland is the oldest European Settlement in Victoria and we will setup camp at Henty Park. If you would like to relax, take a short stroll to the foreshore, find some shady grass and put your feet up for a while. Otherwise head into town and you will find plenty of shops, tourist activities and attractions to keep you entertained. You could take a scenic ride along the foreshore on the Portland Cable Tram, take a walk to see 50 of Portland's historic buildings or check out the views from Cape Nelson State Park nearby.
For more information on what to see and do in Portland, visit the Glenelg Shire website.
