Establish southern link between Southbank and Todd Road, Fishermans bend by utilising old Webb Dock railway line (adjacent to Lorimer Street) and connecting to existing infrastructure at 'Yarra's Edge' precinct.
Napthine Government blesses Webb Dock bike path
16 September 2013 In a welcome move the Napthine State Government has released a draft plan for Fishermans Bend Precinct Plan which states one of the Key Actions should be to "Provide a dedicated pedestrian and cycle reservation along Lorimer Street to link the river promenade at Yarra’s Edge with the cycle punt at Westgate Park and the bay, including: A new linear park link along Todd Road between Westgate Park and Sandridge Beach at Port Phillip Bay" . It is evident that they seen the wisdom in our ask to link this critical sectino of the path network.
The Rail Corridor is sitting there abandoned with no future plans to redevelop it. With little physical constraints all this fantastic opportunity now needs formal access granted to the rail corridor and the funding to build the path.
Closing the gap between Main Yarra Trail, the Bay Trail (western section) and the Punt
Jun 2012 Development of this four kilometre link could be accommodated in either road or the decomissioned Webb Dock rail reserve. This link is important as it completes the gap between the Punt, the Bay Trail and Southbank/Docklands and CBD.
It's an easy, cost effective investment for the Baillieu State Government who needs to identify high yield transport projects to help move more commuters in a notoriously Public Transport dry area of Melbourne.
