Elijah Rowlands, a 15-year old High School student, is organising a fundraising bike ride to help pay for his year-long school exchange visit to Italy. Part of his motivation for going to Italy is for the great cycling opportunities there, and it made sense to use this as a starting point to help raise the money needed for him to go. We have a few spots still available to join in on the extremely challenging ride around the Yarra Valley on December 8th. Elijah's Yarra Valley Challenge:
Elijah's Yarra Valley Challenge will take place on Sunday December 8th, and will involve a 180 km ride with several notable climbing sections. The general summary of the route is as follows:
1st half - Melba College (Croydon) to Sky High (Mt Dandenong) to Warbuton and then up Mt Donna Buang.
After descending Donna Buang, we will have a lunch break in Warburton.
2nd half - Warburton to Healesville (over the Panton Gap), then on to Yarra Glen and up through the Christmas Hills to Kangaroo Ground. Returning from Kangaroo Ground through Warrandyte to complete the ride back at Melba College.
A map of the route, including elevation, can be found at http://www.bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=619370
We have a donation/sponsorship site set up for people to contribute to (http://www.gofundme.com/Elijahschallenge
), and hope to get as many people as possible excited about Elijah trying to complete this epic ride.
Importantly, we need a small team of riders to accompany Elijah on the Challenge. In the spirit of the fundraising aspect, we need any interested riders to bring in a minimum of $250 of sponsorship to become a part of the riding group. Given the nature of the ride, it should be easy to convince family and friends that it will take a bit of money to motivate you to ride such a challenging route!
We already have a few riders that have committed to the ride, and would ideally like another 3 or 4 to join in. We will have a support car with us the whole way, and will provide food and drink and mechanical back-up. Reply to this post or PM me for more details. It promises to be an incredible adventure.
