I find the flow is much better to hang a left at Ferrars then right onto Park...less cars than Albert Road...lights are sequenced better too. Sturt Street gives you a virtual car-free/cyclist-free alternative to St Kilda Road...and to avoid the stupidity that is Princes Bridge, I like going straight over St Kilda Road and go for the scenic detour over Swan Street Bridge...the variation to then go over the MCG bridge is a possibility...but longer if you're trying to get near the Hyatt.
I'll probably do something more like this. Ferrars St is a bitch in peak-hour. My handlebars are wider than the bike lane there.
If I need to get there quickly, it'll be straight up Kerferd, along the shared, off-road path on Albert Road and then left onto St Kilda Road and via Birrarung Marr/William Barrak Bridge into East Melbourne. I've never ridden St Kilda Road in peak hour, though...
Not sure about any lanes on Lansdowne. The last time I rode it was on a Sunday evening in summer, and I was riding down the hill, not up. I will check on Monday
