I like the thought of forgetting this "issue". I haven't seen any coherent reason articulated on why it is a problem. We have plenty of other problems of road safety without worrying about motorists getting jealous.
When the statistics prove that death or injury results from cyclists running reds, I'll give a damn. So far, that hasn't been the case; in fact in London it's been shown that it's safer to run a red, statitically.
