Depending on the weather, leaving a baby in a car by itself is not a certain death sentence for the baby.
If anyone wants some entertainment, go and find the Essential Baby forum and read one of 2000 threads over the last decade about this issue. I'm sure there's a thread about this very photo.
If you want to hear sanctimonious smug self-congratulatory people they will be there in spades.
For example, it is now illegal in Australia to leave any kid under the age of 15
alone in a parked car. To me that is nuts. We were left parked in the car all the time when my mum popped into the milk bar etc. We were of the age to be holding down a job, or working ourselves as babysitters, so for it now to be illegal to even sit there on our own doing our calculus homework is frankly nuts.
I wouldn't personally leave the baby in the car while going shopping, but have been tempted many times when running in to pick up takeaway etc. while parked outside the shops. The only thing stopping me (and this hasn't been in hot weather - I am aware of the risks there), is that some do-gooder will go out of their way to report me to DOCS or similar for it. The Angels at EB or similar forums would make out that people who leave their kids in the car to pay for petrol are only one step away from murderers.
Still a cyclist, albeit one who never rides any more....
