Hi everyone, I have not been around for some time as have barely been on my bike since my two accidents last year. Last week I finally got on my bike only to receive the news we all never want to get. My younger sister was cycling in Taupo with friends last Sat, single file and riding up a small hill. A truck towing a trailer sped past a bunch of four and then proceeded to pass my sisters group of three on a double yellow line. He was traveling so fast and cose to them that Jane turned to see and as she did so wobbled slightly. The truck hit her front wheel and she was catapulted under the wheels. She survived the impact but cardiac arrested three times and died at the scene.
As you can imagine this has been the most awful week. The funeral was today with probably close to 800 people. Her cycle group gave her a guard of honour and the whole community where she lived came to say goodbye.
My message to you, is be careful as Jane and her bunch were the most safety conscious I know but it did not save her. I am now weighing up whether I will ever ride again or give it up as I cannot put my parents through this again.
