Cashed in the extra hour that going from Daylight Savings gave us & I hit the Yarra trails on the Specialized Epic
. Mostly as a ‘shake down’ for the Wombat 100 next weekend (me doing the 50kms) after new cogs & chain (Shimano Deore XT 44/32/22, 32~11).
Rolled out at dawn’s crack & was happily bumping along something dirty before a lot of the rabbits had bunked down for the morning.http://app.strava.com/activities/47569837
Trails were smooth, packed down & super fast, with many corners up around Dickies paddock (the loop were the powerlines are??) with a lip on the outside edge which made it almost impossible to fall on the groove. Heaps-o-fun.
Noticed some new singletrack right from the Guide Dogs Chandler Hwy along the freeway fence line which was smashing. Although the trail between the sealed path bollards & the Kew golf course boundary mesh fence further upstream was leaf strewn & had a branch down on one section (too big a job for me to remove it without something to cut the limbs). Also the further upstream near Burke Rd some old sections of trail had been closed off, but what remained looked like it had some work, like a proper log roll over & detours removed.
On my return leg (I only had until 9am to get my butt home) I continued passed the Pipe bridge downstream along the east bank riverside trail to Studley Park Rd/Johnson St. There was a section ‘clearly’ signed as ‘No bikes’ which I dutifully obeyed by taking the climb up to Yarra Blvrd from Bellbird park to just after River Retreat, then continued on via a pedestrian access, past Kanes bridge & included the trail loop opposite Dights Falls.
Just a bike & a place to ride.
