That is actually rather old news, I've seen that "tyre" a couple of years back. Anyway, the concept is hardly new
WW1 German military bike - the Germans had a shortage of rubber so something else had to be invented.
Actually airless tyres are one of the Five Horsemen of the Cycling Apocalypse - all first invented in the 1890s, frequently "invented" again, and none have had real commercial success.
