inspirational stuff .... almost makes me want to go back and live there again, when I was there in the late 90s early 2000, it was a very dangerous place to ride, cyclists were squeezed between buses and the kerb, there was no awareness or consideration, it was an oil burning rat race of diesel fumed filth. for me it was urban mountain biking .... more survival than fun, had to jump kerbs, just become bloody minded to avoid being squashed - bit like here sometimes, cyclists were seen as just another impediment to the transport journey. then when you add miserable weather, it all got too hard, of course try and get to work on the public transport system in peak hour, sometimes quicker to walk. in the end I just found as many paths, park shortcuts and lanes as possible to avoid it all.
great to see times have changed, Melbourne is also at the squeeze point of where the viability of cars is questionable due to frequent congestion, think we need a rethink here as well.
