So if the Roulettes fly over Gippsland (they are based at East Sale) and not seen by the General Public, then it's OK?
They are flying in formation, it is part of their training. It's just they incoropate the Aerobatics into the flight.
And the flights may include navigation and other training components so it's not just the Aerobatics
As for Defending Australia, the PC9 won't do much defending it is an unarmed training aircraft.
Do you think they just go up and fly for fun? (Yes, they may enjoy their job)
I know they do it for training etc., that the Roulettes are unarmed planes, that these pilots do fly the usual fighter jets, that they have to be some of the best fliers to get the gig as a Roulette and that if they weren't doing it over Melbourne they'd be doing it over Gippsland. And personally I like their displays. But I was showing the other viewpoint, which is that it may seem to be a waste of money to some people.
Ok, I am ex defence (not Air Force), and still working as a contractor to defence.
Believe it or not Defence forces cost money, even if they are not being utilized (ie. personnel, maintance, future capabilities costs)
So if we cut costs in training and support it normally comes back to bite, down the track when we have lost capabilities.
Therfore if some people see it as a waste of money, and we don't give them the fuel to fly.
The pilots will not be getting the required training, I'd prefer to go to war, humanitarian mission, or whatever, with pilots that can fly their aircraft.
