MOTORISTS watched in amazement as a woman held a baby while dinking on a bicycle in peak-hour traffic.
The two adults and the baby were seen riding on a busy inner-city road on one bike last Friday afternoon.
Police said the stunt could land the couple a $282 fine, while road safety groups condemned the stupid act as a "recipe for death".
Witness Glenn Clements said motorists caught in Flemington Rd traffic watched in disgust as the trio passed.
He said they also ran a red light as they turned left into Racecourse Rd.
"The baby would not have been much older than one and the (woman) was just holding it there on her chest," Mr Clements said.
"We could not believe it ... I just had to shake my head at the stupidity.
"Both adults had helmets on but the baby didn't."

Victoria Police has a copy of the image and said if the cyclists were caught they could be fined $141 for every extra person they had on.
"It is such reckless and stupid behaviour," Sen-Constable Marty Beveridge said. "If anyone has information as to the identity of the couple we encourage you to contact the police."
RoadSafe spokesman Andy Milbourne said the riders were playing "Russian roulette" with the baby's life.
"The fact they are doing that on a busy road or any road is a recipe for death. If the child comes off the bike and hits their head more than likely they are going to die," Mr Milbourne said.
"Imagine being the driver who hits the bike or the police called to that scene after the crash - you would carry around that trauma for the rest of your life."
Australian Family Association Victorian president Terri Kelleher said she was shocked the riders would be so reckless.
"For a start dinking is illegal, but that baby is totally exposed."
