Police to target red-light running, rule-breaking cyclists on Beach Rd
Jesse Wray-McCann From: Mordialloc Chelsea Leader February 08, 2013 12:00AM
POLICE are targeting vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists as part of a new operation.
Kingston Highway Patrol members have been carrying out covert patrols in the Kingston, Glen Eira and Bayside areas as part of Operation Nike.
What should happen to cyclists who flout the road rules? Comment below.
Sen-Sgt Andrew McDowell said the operation would enforce road rules.
"We've upped the ante with cyclists in particular because we're seeing a lot of them running red lights, especially on Beach Rd, or breaking other road rules," Sen-Sgt McDowell said.
"The road rules apply to everyone, not just motor vehicle drivers."
"This is not an exercise in revenue raising at all, it is solely about road safety and enforcement is a big part of getting the message through."
