Was feeling sore and sorry this morning at the breaky table - Friday legs, Friday back, Friday hangover..."just going to take it really easy on the ride in" me thinks. Smell the roses and all that. No rush today.
So I'm 1k in, GCT, and on the path beside me is the shadow of a 'contender', he's sitting tight on my wheel, won't go past. But I'm not playing today. Look again at the shadow - a flat bar. I'm on the commuter-roadie. Unless he's wearing an aero helmet, I'm worth more points. Yeah, but I'm not playing! Now the pace is a little more willing but he's still there and we're already at Toorak Rd and maybe I can drop him with a spurt at the velodrome but no I can't and he's still there...easy on the red carpet...now a big effort along the bvd (mental note - lube the chain on the weekend) but he's still there and I'm stuffed, probably my brakes are rubbing, and what am I doing out of the saddle in the big ring at 40rpm up the McRobs hill and wasn't this going to be an easy ride? Brake, 'ding', pass, accelerate...still there...brake, 'ding', pass, accelerate....all the way to Flinders St.
And he was still there.
Sometimes you just can't help yourself. Good fun though.
