They regard themselves as a "health promotion" charity - yes pretty spurious. But they make money from the rides to promote cycling - they are still a not-for-profit organisation.

$6.8 million of BNV's $11.6 million income was from the rides. If they didn't make money then they wouldn't have the funds to do what they do.
They're still registered as a health charity, you'd have to consult a taxation lawyer for the exact reasons.
