Yesterday's commute was 'orrible. Today's was wunnerful.
Yesterday I had to drive, first time in six months or more. It was the only realistic way to get self-loading luggage to childcare, my bike to an LBS for TLC pre AAC, and then myself to work. Normally it takes me about twenty minutes to ride from home to childcare with the trailer. Yesterday in the car it took... about twenty minutes. Yeesh, I don't know how people manage to commute in a car every day and stay sane.
Today, the bike is all clean and shiny, it has a chain and rings with teeth where teeth should be, the horrendous mess of the creaking crunching jerky clockwork headset fixed -- oh look, it did need a new headset and possibly not the new pair of shocks, despite that being what the last shop insisted was the problem, and them then whacking an extra spacer in "because its loose" when I took it back hadn't fixed anything.
Only one minor quibble about the service, coming up to the first corner this morning, indicate right and gently squeeze the rear brakes and ... nearly end up sitting on the handlebars! Oops, hadn't realised how slack the brakes had got with the old cables. They're now back to near perfect and stop much better.
