Just wondering if I could get anyone else's experiences of this?
I'm currently incubating MiniSqueaza MkII, and it's been a pretty rough trot this time! The last proper bike ride I did was the week after Easter, and pretty soon after that the thought of any physical exertion had me nearly being sick
I managed to get out on the bike path Mid-July for a pootly 15kms, but the last few kms of that were hanging onto my stomach contents grimly, while putting up with a few good-natured comments from passing cyclists about 'surely I could manage to go faster than that'
After that I left it for a while, and last week felt good and braved up and hopped on my old upright hybrid for a bit of the Mansfield-Bonnie Doon rail trail. I lasted 4.2 kms until I had to accept that my stomach ligaments were screaming with pain and no it wasn't going to get any better the more I rode
Soooooo.... it's utterly off the bike for me until maybe February or March next year. By that time it will be 10 or 11 months with precisely 19kms ridden in it - a complete unknown for me.
I'd love to know how people go getting their mojo back? I will have lost so much cycling fitness - I got it back pretty quickly after my first pregnancy, where the ligament pain stopped me for about 5 months, but I was cycling regularly for the first few months that time, and was coming off a 10,000km year when I got pregnant so starting from a very different base. Now I look at my bikes, and the months of the association making me feel so sick has meant that I no longer desire to ride them every time I see them
I think it'll be years before I can really start commuting again - At my fittest and least busy it was still very tiring for me to do it a few times a week, and ventured into the realms of impossible once a small person turned up. I'm out of the habit of dragging myself out of bed voluntarily at 5.30am to do MRRs, although I'm sure I can get back into that one day.
Still a cyclist, albeit one who never rides any more....
