Yesterday missed the group (seems Wednesday is the day for that happening) so rode alone..... ended up thinking I couldn't have stayed with the group at all anyway, with my lungs being a handicap atm (just getting over a bad cold) plus not enough sleep previous two nights BUT now I see people had carried out their threat
of riding retro bikes, so that might have been a nice pace for me!
Today.... HOT! Jersey material (and with sleeves, even though short sleeves) is too hot for me!
Counted seven separate groups today. First group passed me while approaching Surrey Rd, and I couldn't get onto them at all.... assumed nonetheless that they were mice, but then after I'd later ended up riding with two different mice groups, thought that the first group to pass me MIGHT possibly have been slow rabbits. (I can rarely tell from the people in the group which is which!) Next group: shortly after Surrey Rd, a group that was definitely rabbit pace. Next: joined a mice group at Springvale Rd. Kept up with them a little way, but not as far as the rise up to Mitcham Rd. Then, as I was pootling along in the service lane up to Mitcham Rd, the final mice group came along on the main part of the road AND to my surprise I got to join them as they turned into Mitcham Rd. (Unlike the other week when I went into the service lane while the rest of the group got caught at the red light but they STILL overtook me turning into Mitcham!) This mice group was staying slow for a newbie in their group, so I kept with them until Springvale Rd, but not beyond there, after a red light at Springvale. The final three groups were the two-man group which included Ness (caught up to us at Springvale Rd), and either two more rabbit groups or else a rabbit group and a hound group.
Don't know what others think of this, but I think it's not a bad thing having so many separate groups along the route, rather than trying to force people to ride more slowly than they would like to (which, going by the ongoing debate here, seems there is always dissatisfaction anyway!) [Had to check the spelling of dissatisfaction.... is it that long since I've written it? Or could I possibly never used it in essays as a student?]
Two more "excuses" for my very slow pace today:
Woke up this morning feeling dehydrated (likely not enough fluid during yesterday's hot day!)
Forgot to eat (never a good thing for me, first thing in morning!)
And a possible additional factor.... have suspected my cadence meter is somehow playing up because it seems to be giving high cadence readings... could possibly just be that I've somehow started pedalling faster than before, but if it IS the meter playing up, then a lot of the time I would have been in too high a gear as a result
BUT being slow doesn't matter.... great to be out riding!
