Just wait until you get used to climbing like a singlespeeder... then get back on a geared bike. Attack every hill, AND have tall gears to get some speed up on the flats!
I find commuting on a geared bike to be more exhausting than the singlespeed these days. I still climb at the same speed, but then I don't run out of cadence and get a rest on the flats and descents, so I'm pushing all the way...
