[quote="Jason S"][quote= A declaration of interest; I'm an advocate of mandatory helmet laws.
My personal experience was that I went over a car bonnet on Brunswick Street when a car pulled out in front of me (SMIDSY). My head initially hit the bonnet pretty hard and it also hit the road as I went over the other side. The helmet got totaled, and I copped a bruised head (left hand side, above the ear) and nasty concussion that saw me spend a few hours in St Vincent's. My head copped the bulk of the hit; otherwise I had very little to show for the trip over the bonnet apart from a few minor scratches. It took me about 3-4 days to get 100% over the concussion.
I'm glad I was wearing the helmet.
I appreciate we all have different views and experiences. That's just my personal experience and it underlines my personal views on this particular issue.
I'm a little surprised by the passion displayed by many on both sides of this debate. I just think there are bigger and more important issues to expend such nervous energy on; like world peace! [/quote snipped
Hi Jason, Personal experiences mould our thinking no doubt. But don’t worry about a declaration of interest here, that will be decided by the group as to whatever is the point of your text.
I don’t believe that every one ought to be forced to wear a helmet, as it’s probably true that over 20 klm an hour they may be of little benefit in a prang, I would still wear one as it may be of benefit to slower riders. So I am actually on the side of those who are against the law. After all we seek only an amendment to allow those that don't want to wear the helmet their freedom. Funny as when I pointed this out on another thread and stated we may as well buy the cheapest hat that fits, I was howled down as the dearer ones were (allegedly),safer.Again group mentality as they all pas the same test. Go figure.
This point though goes unnoticed as I happen to be moderate in my view and can see both sides to the argument. My post was in relation to the law and how it affects a worker in the given situation. It much for the collective to comprehend though. And obviously many here have not run a business and had to think about OH& S, as it applies to them.
But a bad law, ( spoken as fact), still has to be adhered too.
All I did was show a worker on a bike during work hours, and on his back was a sign stating he was the first aid rep. I thought it was an oxymoron to be representing safety and not riding with approved safety gear on.
Now I have to have a name and address of that individual, and proof of his employment and all else.
The picture shows a dill on a bike not in uniform, that’s all I am saying. The pic is the proof!
Well how dare I do that?
Of course many clearly identify with the dill on the bike; who is breaking the law.
Those individuals have morphed into that rider as one and so with closed minds will go on infinitum.
It is more than apparent that the whole thread is designed to intimidate any person with any other point of view, and is in fact a troll for the clique element here to have an excuse to band together in a show of communal aggression.
Just look at the collective mentality of the advocates of those against helmets on this forum. Helmet Laws.. or Losers who have heaps of time to talk crap.
One could be forgiven for not wanting to post on this thread could they not? For doing so, would be going against the standing blind loyalty of the clique, to oppose a law of the land is fashionable here.
You have a different point of view ; you are talking crap. You are a loser.
Then we have this thread.... Re: Helmet Laws Sux.. or do they?
No room for argument here either, the law sucks, and so do any opposing thoughts. Who is going to put up their hand to put a differing opinion to a blunt statement of rebuttal at the outset?
What a brave group we have here, that fear another’s point of view.
And have you blokes noticed how you continually pull apart each others threads, to make some frivolous point. and some times its just so petty.Still it mus be very empowering for you. Another tool to keep the opposition in place? Or is it that you can't remember a few lines ahead of a statement? Ahh yes , the siege mentality. Still as long as we are enjoying ourselves.
