Not exactly what started the thread, but...
Unfortunately, where existing cycleways meet Vic Pde, the infrastructure is poor and needs consideration in order for cyclists to be able to connect the dots between cycleways that are not major arterials.
e.g. Wellington, Brunswick St, etc, meeting Vic Pde - bike lanes disappear at intersections - intersections have been singled out as areas where more accidents tend to occur - then cyclists need to get over to Albert St, Gisborne, Clarendon, etc, etc via bits of Vic Pde - so at some point, Vic Pde needs consideration for cyclist needs, not necessarily as a main cycling route. Also, so that back street routes like Napier (which is calmer, and possibly more attractive to particular cyclists) don't 'dead end' at Vic Pde.
