Agreed on the inaccuracy of services that port Google Earth (bikely, gmaps etc) - too many times I have seen changes on those sites that do not reflect the real world. Q: do they use survey data, and if so what kind(s)?
Using slightly different points (on vs slightly beside a road, for example) can produce major differences in altitude, and many times the map overlay does not accurately match up with the satellite image.
