I got an email at work early in the year asking for anyone interested in making up a team for the bay2bay ride.
I had a look at the website and thought, why not? Now Ive only had a road bike since september last year..... just started clipping in early february..... have kissed the concrete several times since doing so, much to the amusement of my friend who also helped break one of my falls lol and I really tickled a truck driver who couldnt stop laughing and tooted me (probably was on his radio telling all his truckie mates!).
Anyway I digress.
This was my first offical ride on my Felt. My friends hubby had dropped my seat 2.5cm as I wasnt really happy (thus the concrete kisses!) I met some of my team for the first time on friday for a photo outside work and we found out who was doing which ride... 65km or the 113km. I was happy to do the 65km.
My biggest fear was of course the climb up Arthurs seat, I decided that my aim was to ride it without stopping. Mission complete! I got to the top and found one of the boys still up there (he rode his mtb!!) We rode from the top together until my poor bike broke a cable and left me with just the big cog at the front for the last 1/2 of the ride.. fun!
The hill was timed and I was very happy with my 20mins and I completed the whole ride in 3hrs 12 min. Today I feel great, thought I would have sore butt bones, stiff legs and sore neck/shoulders. But have been very pleased to find that I dont feel any more aches than when I do a double class down the gym.
Did anyone else do this ride? I found the whole ride well run, a great challenge with lots of hills. The marshalls and volunteers were great and I felt very safe even though I was riding mostly by myself. I missed having my own friends ride with me but they were there in spirit
