I built one a few years ago. It would have cost me about $300, for new stuff and getting the wheel built, (now I can do that too). Got the frame off a friend who had been given a complete bike and stripped it for the parts. I made it up out of spares I had, Including wheels, BB, bars, stem seat post and pedals. I imported most of the other stuff. I ran with a 52/19 combination which worked out to 72 inches, very comfy. Try not to go over 170 mm for your cranks, I used two cheap BMX chains joined to give me enough chain length. I had a wonderful day. Even had to wait at the top of Mt Martha for my mate on a zillion speed carbon roadie. Just remember you cannot descend Oliver's Hill all that quick, or you can but it gets 'exciting'.
