Another great day of racing at Blackburn for round 4 of the Summer Sprint Series.
There were plenty of threatening clouds, but never more than the barest drizzle, so racing continued uninterrupted. The wind was quite variable, but mostly was a strong headwind up the back straight, which makes a fast flying 200 time difficult. I had the slowest time - quite a bit slower than my PB, but pretty much in proportion to other riders who also struggled to record near their best.
Bleve and publius naso in B grade, percrime (on commissaire adjusted time) in C grade, j9 and me in D grade.
Four riders in D grade, so we matched up against each of the other riders.
I lose to the fastest qualifier.
JAC v j9. j9 has been having great results at Southern Vets in the crit series, but hasn't been on her track bike. I lead out, but she is in my blind spot, and I miss her attack. I managed to get back on her wheel, and make a big dig to pass her on the final corner..............j9 holds the lead. Congrats.
I lose to the 2nd fastest qualifier.
3 losses, bit with only 4 in the grade, I am still in the 3rd v 4th final. Against j9.
j9 leads. Slowly. Very slowly. I half expect the commissaire to blow the whistle (no track stands permitted, minimum walking pace to be maintained). I grab the chance to cut behind j9 and grab the sprinter's lane. Head down, 500m to go. j9 comes around on the final corner - she's right beside me - but I just hold the lead. Phew - only one win for me for the day, but it gets me on the podium.
Congrats to bleve for his 2nd place in B grade.
Plenty of exciting races across all the grades. And sausages. Come along next month for round 5!!
