We have a significant wedding anniversary in September, and we've arranged a few days without kids. Mrs B has suggested - a couple of times, unprovoked - that we could go for a bike tour somewhere. This way of thinking is to be supported
Now, bear in mind that Mrs B is not a capital-C Cyclist. She's never ridden 100km... I can't think of any time she would have ridden more than about 50km. She's not prone to riding up hills for the sake of riding up a hill. The riding will not be the destination in itself. We would be riding between attractions, which may be scenic, or historic, or interesting, and would preferably include wineries. Definitely B&B-style credit card touring. Her bike is upright and has a basket. I'll carry a couple of panniers. Or we might ride our tandem (which has not seen any use for several years).
So, what I'm looking for is suggestions of interesting areas with lots to see and do in bike-able range... as opposed to "touring" routes.
I know it is not the most imaginative suggestion, but the Murray to Mountain rail trail pretty much ticks all the boxes for what you want.
Historic towns (particularly if you do Beechworth)
Good choice of accommodation
Some great places to eat
Trail would suit her bike
+1 i have been looking at this and i think it would be a fantastic ride...might get to do it myself one day
