I often do these rides - nice small group generally and no real pace most of the time. You'd struggle a bit up the mountains IMO but the Beach Rd ride would probably be OK and would give you an idea of how hard they go .... not too hard generally.
But hills are hills and the fast/strong guys with this group zip up 1in20 in under 20 mins, and I do my regular 24-25 mins which is not the slowest. But there are 25kms of rolling hills to get there as well, and these are worse on the way back (Canterbury Rd Heathmont and Vermont, or Boronia Rd, and then back through Box Hill South). They usually ride on through Olinda and Kalorama and down to Montrose, and return down Canterbury Rd - traffic can be tricky out there even on Sunday mornings.
I suggest you email them, get on the list and they will text you on Saturday arvo with the next days ride. If it is Beach Rd get along and see how you go.
