Rode to Ringwood with squeezasis then on to Montrose to climb the Nongs.
Nearly skittled under the railway bridge on Mt Dandy Rd by a stupid red sports car.
As I was raising my fingers to his rear window I was then nearly skittled by a Range Rover !!
The police car was the next vehicle to pass me and for a moment I thought there might be some blue-boy action taken ....but, no - cops turned into station 300m down the road.
First time up this side - very nice climb, consistent grade and, as Dalai said, good surface and plenty of room. Caught and passed two guys on the way up, had a brief chat and continued on ahead only to hear the huff-puff of the fitter of the two tracking my rear wheel a few hundred meters later. He stuck with it most of the way to Kalorama but sagged back a little at the end. I climb like a clock (one pace) but I think he was stretched at the end. I stopped for the view at Kalorama and he wheeled in a minute later. His mate turned up about 3 mins after and they set off towards Olinda before me again but I never saw them after that. Everyone had a good workout there I reckon.
I really enjoyed the fast run through the hills to Olinda and the run from there to Sassafrass is brilliant. Descended 1:20, always fun, and made it home in 1 hour from The Basin. 71kms on the clock and a great morning overall - weather was so nice I was probably overdressed a little although I zippered up from Olinda down. Had three brief stops to munch a bar and drink but no cafe as I was riding solo.
