baudman you didn't "miss" us, we just neglected to properly introduce ourselves. Look through your pics and you'll be sure to find you took a couple of our son on his running bike and sitting on our cargobike (the longhaul cargocycles with Brooks bits). Mr B was riding along the Capital City Trail behind you on the way to the picnic.
Was a great outing. Yesterday's weather was better but the presence of other bikes and people made todays picnic much more enjoyable.
Loved the try anyone else's bike atmosphere. i parked our cargocycle between two others (made for a nice photo) and moments later saw it going round the park for a test ride! I think it did quite a few laps without us.
The only other bike I had a go on was the orange bullitt and that rides like a proper bike. Loved it. Doesn't fit our family's requirements for a cargobike at all, but if I wanted something for picking up the groceries, and I had the money.....
Squeaza, I agree that the longhaul is certainly no harder to handle than the shorthaul. If you look at the wheel base it's only half a wheel longer, yet the cargo space is considerably bigger. Significantly more cargospace with no real change in the "difficultness" made the onger bike a winner fo rme. The electric assist would
be nice, and I think that even though we live in a pretty flat area.
My main mission was to work out how to mount a baby capsule so I can do the daycare run, and Emmy from Dutch Cargo Bikes just happened to have a baby one day older than mine, and had the solution. Bakfiets make a very neat metal bar cage thing that a MaxiCosi (stupidly expensive brand of baby capsule) fits into. The metal cage has a mount that's bolted to the floor of the bike (very neat compared to how I'd imagined we'd have to drill mounts into the side of the box) and a quick release for the frame itself, so the whole frame can be esaily removed for when you're doing the shopping wihtou the littlest one.
So I came home all excited, looked up MaxiCosi ($400 for baby capsule
), then found one going very cheap on Ebay cause it doesn't have the car mount part - perfect I don't need that. Made my bid then emailed Emmy re the frame mount. She promptly replied, but probably not available until their next shipment arrives. ........ in June
If I win the Ebay auction I'll have to try and get myself a mount soon.....
