I've just started getting back into training after an injury, and it would be good to do some longer rides along Beach Rd as part of it. I don't think any of the existing Beach Rd groups on the forum (except for BBC Black Rock) are anywhere near slow enough for me though!
I'm guessing it will take at least a few weeks to get back to the level I was at 2 months ago.... although of course it will depend on how I go about training.... and I can always choose to train much more efficiently than I did before, to accelerate the process. (Most of my riding kms up to this point have been on my own, sometimes in heavy traffic, and not having much capacity to push myself to the limit, especially when riding alone.... but my intention now is to start using the velodrome, and I now have a hr monitor
In terms of where I was at 2 months ago: I didn't have much idea of what speed I could ride at for what distance. Regarding comparison with others: I was a lot slower than the MRR "cheese", and on the RRR there was only one person with whom I could keep up consistantly. That being said however, I have been told by some people that the MRR and RRR groups are fairly serious cyclists even by forum standards (as well as being mainly male). 2 months ago, on the MRRs I could generally keep up with the "mice" on the flat stretches, but not up or down steep hills. I think the mice/recovery speed at that point in time tended to be 27-29 kph average for the ride, and may have been faster than that on the flat parts. (Don't know about this....) My forte though tends to be long slow rides rather than the MRR/RRR/BBC distances, and hills might be one of my weaker points at this point in time. So, hope that gives you some idea....
I can do either Sundays or weekdays for rides (or if you can only do Saturdays, I can do morning or evening). So, interested in hearing from any takers, even for a one-off ride
