Although it does follow Beach Rd down from Pt Melb to Mordi, generally speaking, so it's more than the 4kms [approx] along Beaconsfield Pde.
A work mate trained for the Melb marathon last year along the off-the-road path (while running), and even he - while on foot - complained about the other path users & blind driveways/carpark entries being a little hazardous.
No, Marx, the "bike" path ends at St Kilda, at which point it becomes a "shared" path, which means the pedestrians can legally use it south of St Kilda, whereas the pedestrians using the St Kilda to Port Melbourne bike path are just conveniently ignoring the markings on the path indicating cyclists only.
