Rode to the airport on the weekend and found one of the two bicycle parking areas.
It is clean and convenient. Notice that the green bicycle has had it pedals removed as a theft deterent.http://www.flickr.com/photos/13134181@N ... otostream/http://www.flickr.com/photos/13134181@N ... otostream/http://www.flickr.com/photos/13134181@N ... otostream/
I rode on the Matthews Avenue / Melrose Road route. While there are a series of bicycle lanes, I felt uncomfortable on some of the road sections when there was no lane and not enough room for safe passing by motor vehicles. Some parts of the bicycle lane cannot be used because there are parked cars forcing riding out where the "buffalo roam". I looked at the road rules when I got home and found that cars can park in bicycle lanes as long as it is not prohibited.
Saw the taxi holding area. It is huge. Smelt hambergers as I passed their cafe. Hmm! nice.
While it is an easy 14 km ride, due to the speed of the traffic and narrow road sections, I won't ride it again. Will look at the longer Moonee Ponds Creek route next to find out if this is safer.
