I ended up warning/directing traffic while the kid was still down in the middle of the corner. Kudos to most, who slowed down and said thanks for the heads up. However, poor effort by the number of groups who complained to those attending to the kid that they were in the the way and should move. Why?? Cos they were worried about their average speed stats. They copped this from more than one group. A 15 year old kid is lying on the road in a pool of blood. His dad is on the side of the road struggling to speak, and all they cared about was their average speed. Many words come to mind, none of which are printable. Seems as though some need to remember what the ride is about.
Has there been an update on how this boy is? I got there only a few minutes after it happened and he was not moving, and his face was covered in blood. Some people were calm but one man (probably his dad) was shouting to get an ambulance, and not to move his head. I could not help directly but assisted with slowing down the traffic. I have been worrying about him ever since. I reckon it is worse when you are a parent.
Perhaps the people who were complaining did not know the reason why they had to slow down? You would hope that was the case, otherwise they clearly don't understand how serious it can be.
It sobered the rest of my ride.
