Well done lock, what time did you roll into Ballarat?
Now you've done the finish straight to the Hell of the West race (Glenmore climb),It's nasty isn't it.
Rolled into Ballarat (closer to Buninyong) around 1:00pm. Had lots of stops along the way, a few snack breaks but most were to make sure I was riding down the right road.
After the climb I think I lost a cog on the rear, as in for the rest of the ride I was just that little bit slower. It's not long, but definitely sharp.
Tried riding around the outside (wrong side of road on some bends) but had to cut back in on one of the corners as a car was coming down... That pretty much ground me to a halt, on the 25, out of the saddle, pulling on the handlebars as hard as I could! Just made it round that bend without toppling over sideways from lack of forward movement.
You can't actually see the whole climb from the bottom; only bits of it sticking out from behind trees. I was sorta hoping one section had an extra two hairpins in it to make it a little flatter, alas it was just a straight uphill stretch.
Interesting that the 4WD driver stopped to 'see if you would make it'
Most of the people I passed on the ride were all in a pretty jolly mood, think I also heard a "Merry Christmas" from one of the passing cars. Thought about asking the 4WD guy for a skitch to the top, but that'd be cheating and I couldn't talk at that point anyway (barely managed an exhausted smile).
