A few of us from the Peak Peloton decided to give tonight's 7pm bunch a crack and for me it was the first time in long while that I'd done the Tour de Burbs ride.
I'm far from a perfect rider and profess to having committed the odd indiscretion, however my overall impression of the ride tonight was that it was spoilt by a few riders who ride without due consideration to their fellow riders in the peloton and their surroundings. For example, undertaking to the left of slower riders up the shoppingtown climb was rife, rolling through red lights, cutting in front of overtaken riders without sufficient clearance, stopping at the regroup point on Manningham Rd in the left lane rather than the service lane and lastly, one bright spark who called the gentleman trying to walk his dogs past us outside the Shell servo a poof.
If we're to gain the respect we desire on the roads from our fellow road users, we also need to ensure that we don't contribute to the elements that currently conjure up such a negative perception of cyclists.
Otherwise, it was a really enjoyable ride. The blast down Manningham Rd was a hoot!
