Yes, as BV members, we could not agree more, PalmRed.
I don't think they've thought through the negative impact of this particular BV member reward. In 2008, they also made a late decision to upgrade BV members to a jersey, rather than T Shirt, on the 50km event. However from memory I believe it was given to all members, including those already registered. But introducing a reward midway like this and not applying it retrospectively feels unfair to all those who already registered. Rewarding people for early registration is a different matter. Everyone knows up front if there is an early bird reward.
Our initial gut reaction was to cancel our family membership, too. It certainly made us feel like quitting in protest.
However thinking past this, we didn't join BV to get these rewards. We did it for things like the insurance, advocacy and representation of cyclists. (We have RACV for our cars and BV for our bikes. Actually we have RACV bike assist too.) I'd like to see cycling reach a critical mass in Melbourne that makes it far safer for all of us on the roads. Next up, all the more enjoyable things, like the events they organise, the online resources, Ride On magazine and so on.
So, I've decided to voice my displeasure with this decision (and some others) in the annual membership survey, instead.
