I'm sure there is, and I'm not saying I'm trying to judge what people are doing or how. Mainly that the seriousness with which people go about it is, well, interesting.
And fwiw, my commute used to be about 26 km each way. Now commute-less.
Kiki people can become like that about all kinds of things that don't make sense to those outside their world...my husband collects transformers (the kids toys) and I can tell you he is not the only adult to do so. And if you think the people on this forum are serious wow you should see some of the TF ones
How anyone can have a 60 page argument over the design of a small lump of plastic is beyond me, but it's important to him because he is deeply interested in it.
I'm not 100% sure where I fit in the riding 'scene' but I will tell you one thing I know. Anyone who has trained hard, learned skills, continued to train, developed a dedication and a passion for something be it work, religion, coffee, chocolate, hobbies, kids or sport is probably going to develop a serious attitude towards what they are doing..... and yes you will find personality plays a part too
and FYI the people I have met from this forum are 99.9% awesome and very tolerant of someone who doesn't have much of a clue, sure you would find the same
