You'll hear a lot of people suggesting you don't get a hybrid. I'm not one of them.
You really want a nice, adjustable one, so that it can fit you best. You may find, as you ride more often, your needs/preferences change, so a bike that can change with you would be great.
I like the SUB bikes. They're normally quite good specifications too. Don't be too concerned with suspension, however. It is good that the Bauer has the 'lockout' function, so it gives you the option. But generally, cheap suspension is just more weight to carry around, and it robs you of the effort you put in when you have to climb a hill.
Think about other uses of the bike too. Would you do trips to the shops, for example? If so, a rack and/or basket could be useful. Lights, for when its dark?
IMHO, however, if the car thing is going to be frequent, perhaps consider a folding bike. We have one, and it's REALLY handy.
