For all those Vollies that were part of the 2006 GWABR, won't it be fantastic to go back there.
And for everyone that wasn't there, don't miss out this time.
WA loved us. I live in Sydney, where most people you meet have never heard of these lengthy rides, not even the one's held in NSW.
Everyone I meet that is over on holidays from WA though, has heard of the ride in 2006, and most have fond memories of seeing us passing through. The towns were great, trying to entice us all to move there, with job offers and all. The cops were great, really worked with us as a team, (and not bad looking either). The people, the scenery, the freshest of fruit (remember the bananas, whilst the east coast was having a banana famine due to cyclone damage, we had more bananas than we knew what to do with), everything. I can't wait to go again.
We were at the lunch spot each day, so got to meet many of the riders as well. We also spent a couple of weeks afterwards travelling slowly up the West Coast to Ningaloo Reef, then very quickly back down, being chased by a cyclone. Seriously though, it's the perfect time of the year to travel up to Ningaloo as well to see (and even snorkel with) the whale sharks.
This time, we're thinking of hanging around Margaret River afterwards for a couple of weeks, probably camping at Hamelin Bay. A delightful spot we found on the day off mid ride.
Looking forward to it.
Who else is coming?
