AFAIK, you will be up for a different brifter, a different front derailer, as well as the crankset.
As far as gearing goes, if hills are a REAL worry- go compact with a 12-27, otherwise a compact with a 12-25 will be plenty.
Don't worry about top speeds unless your partner is an absolute speed demon. Lisa can hit 70kph downhills with a compact and a 12 (but thats is more the hill doing the work than pedaling speed).
