I am in a quandary about whether to take a camera. The first few big rides I took no camera, then for the next few I took a disposable camera and the last two a digital (heavier and more precious).
When a camera was with me it was in the back pocket, but I really didn't want to stop riding to actually take any photos, other than one or two where there was exceptional scenery (Great Ocean Road). The result was that most photos are around the campsite and the towns where we stop.
I don't know that I would feel a loss if those photos were not seen again. Better to go on another ride than reminisce about the past. Life generates enough baggage as it is, why create more?
Well I have talked myself out of it. The camera stays home and I travel lighter. Of course if the need arises en route, a disposable camera can be bought. Wink.
