Well how wrong were they? Stuff em I say, they had their chance, not the best organised event anyways. Chaos at the finish last year, and riders of all levels throughout the ride.
Guess where I first learned about the GWABR?
Indeed, at the finish chaos of the Freewaybikehike.
I was riding at the other end of the spectrum last year - with a conservative estimate I had entered myself in the slowest group, waiting at least an hour for everyone else to leave (in the heating carpark, I must add) and feeling 'chased' by the freeway about to open up behind me.
And by the time I got to Greenwood, most Barbiebikes had finished or learned to behave.
Still, it was a great experience, bigger than expected for the organisers, so I forgave them all the teething problems.
It can only get better.
Mandurah-Joondalup next year? - eeek!
As far as dates go: I am sorry I miss it, but I guess these things are hard to coordinate.
Both GWABR and FWBH are part of Bikeweek, sortof.
I will probably go on next years, as it looks to be an annual event -- well, depends on how popular it will be this year, but seeing that my local supermarket advertises it now...
You probably won't make it to next year's, Twowheels. You can always organise one in Melbourne, I suppose. Or do they already have their FreewayBikeHike there?
My other Bikeweek favourite is of course the Autumn River Ramble.
Fortunately that is on April 2nd.
Sorry I am waffling on,
see you around,
