Not long to go now eh? Can't wait!
My husband my best friend and I are going to do it together! Its our first ride! All of the information you have posted on the forums has been a great help to us in preparing to go.
I am lucky enough to be in possession of 2 bikes at the moment and looking for some input and advice from experienced riders as to which bike to ride in WA in March.
I am not hugely fit (yet) and presently in training riding between 30 and 40km in total on bike paths each day when commuting to and from work (on most days anyway
Before I picked up the free bike, I was riding my giant sedona "comfort bike". It is very comfortable and I have managed to get it tuned up the way I like it. I can adjust the handle bars. I have straps fitted on the peddles and a most comfy seat etc.
I have tried riding the free bike on a couple of days since i got it. I am finding that my mid range gears are not working too well, something which i am sure can be tuned up and/or if necessary upgraded. It seems to be a bit heavier. Overall though I feel as though I am able to pick up a bit more speed on this bike. i have not yet formally measured the speed of both bikes.
It is my intention to fit at least one panniers to whichever bike I ride to carry the basics only (eg sunscreen, camera, coat, bathers, towel snacks) and I figure i will have to make a choice soon and get them fitted so i can do some training with the bike fully fitted out (and commute without a darstard backpack on my back).
I am tossing up whether to invest money in either:
(a) buying some new thinner tyres for my MTB; or
(b) maybe spending $$$ in having the GWABR bike serviced and perhaps equipment as in gears etc upgraded.
I am not sure whether i am even in the right place in terms of my thought processes.
I would love to hear more from those in the know as to which way to go.
Thanks in advance
