My friend who rode with me on the GVBR, rode her free bike around for a while before the ride and her back wheel slightly buckled and the wheel frame dented very easily and front tyre rubbed on the brakes. She decided to ride her road bike on the ride. I raffled off my free bike. You might want to post these questions on the GVBR forum. Talk to the people who actually rode the bikes for 9 days. Happy riding.
Okay i find your post a bit distressing.
Firstly a solf alloy rim on the free bike will buckle easily if you hit a curb, bump to hard. this usually can be adjusted by the spokes.
Frame dented???? what was she doing to it, running into rocks? It's delecate bike you can't just throw it around. I can't see how you can dent a frame just riding it.
And lastly, if the brake was rubbing on a tire it can be adjusted.. up/down/left/right.
I'm not knocking what you have said, I just don't understand what the problem was. All easy to fix... well apart from the dents. But they shouldn't have occured in the first place.
