Holy smokes!! I would have to guess you are probably the first person on a bicycle to ever do it. Thats a big feather in your cap I'd say! I rode down that hill once as a teen on my crappy MTB and it scared the crap out of me. I suspected it was steeper than 19%, especially the last "wall" bit!
Did you do the full length of Glenvale Rd? There is another steep hill at the very northern end and also an insane hill at the far southern end too (that is now a dead end due to the Eastlink freeway). All in all just that one road would make for a killer training ride!
Where is Old Forest Rd?
I'm thinking of doing a tour on Sunday (in the car) with a spirit level, protractor and camera to document all the crazy hill in Melb metro.
It would make a cool story on my blog I think and settle some arguments
So to everyone I ask- what hills should I check out in the Melb metro area?
Please give a Melways ref if you have it or a link to the Google map showing it's location.
I came from Deep Creek rd via Timbertop rd (which is also a little tester). I rode into Barnsdale rd (looking at the Melways now) and I now realise there is another section heading further north. I didn't ride that, as I rode through the deep dip the road naturally turns into Barnsdale and I didn't even notice another section going further north as I was concentrating staying on the bike. Is that steeper still?
Old Forest rd is at Melways 65 G9.
