This is not really related to cycling - other than that since I've moved here I've noticed one or two people who appear to be camping (?) or living on the Burnley pontoon (is that what its called?) on my daily cruise to school.
Anyway, each morning an older chap with a beard is sleeping under the road. His bike is parked on the path and nobody stops. At least they don't steal his bike.
Yesterday morning I saw a woman peeing at one of the pylons then go back to her bed. Yesterday afternoon the pontoon closed for a bit to let a boat go through and the bikes queued up. The same guy was sitting on a ledge eating something.
Has anyone ever approached these people? I don't have a lot of spare cash - giving up a job to be a student and all - but I feel saddened that these people don't have somewhere "better" to go. I wonder if they are happy. I was in a situation in another city where I did approach similar people with an offer of help, but i was told in no uncertain terms to fark off!
I guess its left a smudge on the board.
Do these people get by? Should I approach and engage them in conversation some time? Has anyone ever spoken to these people?
Just my profound thinking for today.
