The saga resolves...
There is good new out there. Some places do provide excellent customer service.
I told the sad tale of the horrid prescription above. The story has a happy ending.
I took the glasses back to Nunawading Bicycle Super Store and the staff there were sympathetic and willing to do what they could to help. They contacted Rudy Project who contacted me and agreed to resolve the problem without me being out of pocket (at least for the frames - the lenses were between me and my optometrist).
The man from Rudy Project sent me to see Eyezone Emporium in Malvern and, following much tutting about the "problem" I brought in, they fixed me up with a new frame from the Exception range and new, plastic, lenses at no extra cost to me. The finished product (frame, sunglass and prescription lens) weighs less than the lenses alone from the first attempt and provides good enough vision (I use varifocals most of the time and these are single focus which make quite a difference!) that I can wear them to drive, ride and work around the house. Reading the paper is not an option but I think I'd get through the coffee menu.
My optometrist has agreed to refund 50% of the cost of the lenses from the first attempt. Maybe I could argue and maybe she could say she delivered what I asked for. I'll take that as a win-win when I collect the cash.
