My mate rides a 2007 Colnago C50 with Record because he can - I can beat him up the 1:20 on my Cannondale Six13 and no doubt Jono L on a 3 speed Huffy could beat me.
So who cares?
My favourite urban myth (may be true) is of the Sun Tour rider who rode the Tour, then did Great Vic Bike Ride a month later on his dragster ( I think that is the name for those old bikes with the 3 speed T-bar shifter) and wore jeans. He hammered past most of them to the obvious dismay of riders on their high end bikes.
I remember some 'kids' on bikes, having a dig last year at some old bloke on a MTB chatting along Beach road whilst riding, smile came off their face, when Phil Anderson decided to ride up alongside them at 45ish km/hr and casually ask them how there day was going.....priceless.
Definitely interesting where the sport has gone with all the technology, the drugs etc, if only there was a single benchmark, but hey that would be boring.
Hope he put them in the gutter
Nah, he's too nice for that (so doubt believe all you read )
