Does anyone have any experience cycling up the Mt. Dandenong tourist road from Ferntree Gully towards Olinda? I'm keen to check it out, but having driven it a number of times I know there are a few sharp corners (one in particular) where a car could run up the back of a cyclist very easily.
Any comments, suggestions, best times to ride etc would be great.
I've cycled that road from Olinda to Ferntree Gully. I thought I was going to have problems on the way up with cars. But surprisingly there was plenty of room for everyone. Mind you, we only got passed by about 10 cars in total. There was no probs on the way down either as we were travelling the same speed most of the way down. You get a huge rush going down that mountain, its a fantastic feeling.
I highly recommend riding up Mount Dandenong. It's a regular and a favourite route of mine! The climb up is great, fresh air and great scenery.
But, as always, I advise caution when descending as there are a few curves that keep tightening. I spilled the first time I came down on one particular curve, you'll notice it keeps getting sharper and then just straightens out.
