I gave the NRR a shot this morning, having not been for some time now. I did the 5:45 bunch, thinking it would be fairly chilled out to Mordy, but I arrived a couple of minutes late and had to work hard to catch them. Once I did catch the bunch, it promptly got split by a red light and so we did another small surge to catch the leaders. This continued, and it felt like I was getting stopped by just about every single red light, so I was well and truly warmed up by the time we turned at the roundabout. I was expecting a massive surge once we hit Beach Rd, but the pace wasn't too bad and I was able to hold on without too much struggle. We got split several more times by lights after Black Rock, and each time it got harder to accellerate and stay with the bunch. I eventually decided to sit back and take it easy about 1km from Cafe Racer, but I still got there at around about 6:45, or a fraction after, so I must have been going fairly quick earlier.
All in all a good ride - I'll have to go again next week sometime.
Halfway between the gutter and the cars.
